An unusual wedding venue · Worcestershire

No function room, no carpet, no wedding at four o’clock behind yours

Why people go looking

Nobody searches for an unusual venue because they dislike hotels

They search because they have been to four weddings in three years that were, underneath the flowers, the same wedding. The same room with the same ceiling. The same carvery. The same 7pm turnaround while everybody stands in a corridor holding a drink and waiting for the staff to move the chairs.

What people actually want is not novelty. It is for their day to feel like it belonged to them — and for the two hundred people who came to remember which wedding it was.

A wood does that without trying. Nobody arrives having already been to three weddings in the same room.

The differences that matter

What is actually different here

Not the styling. Styling is something you can buy anywhere. These are structural.

One
You get the whole place, for the whole day

Not a room within a building. Forty acres for the whole of your wedding day, with nobody else on site. No other party in the next room, and no staff waiting for you to finish.

Two
There is no house style to fight

Hotels have a look, and your wedding either matches it or argues with it. A wood has weather and light and that is all. Whatever you bring is the only styling in it.

Three
The day is not run to a turnaround

The room does not need flipping at seven because there is no room. The ceremony, the meal and the dancing happen in different parts of the site, so nothing has to be dismantled while your guests wait outside.

Four
Your caterer, or ours

We have a caterer we work with and can introduce you, but you are under no obligation to use them. There is no approved supplier list and no commission built into your menu. Street food, a feast, three courses, your uncle’s barbecue — the kitchen and cold store are here and the choice is genuinely yours.

Five
It gets better after dark

Most venues are at their best at three in the afternoon. This one is at its best at ten at night, when the fire pits are going and the canvas is lit from inside and the trees have gone black around the edge of it.

Six
It photographs like nowhere else

Low sun through forty acres of oak does something no barn wall can, and it changes hour by hour through the day. Your photographs will not look like the last four weddings your guests went to.

The worry

Unusual should not mean uncomfortable

The fear underneath an outdoor wedding is never about aesthetics. It is that your mother will be cold, your guests will queue for a portaloo, somebody will fall over in the dark and it will rain at two o’clock.

That is a fair fear, and it is what separates a venue from a field with a nice view. Everything on the right is permanent, in the ground, and there before you arrive.

Honestly

Who this is not for

If you want a wedding that runs to a printed schedule, with a co-ordinator in an earpiece and a room that looks finished before you have put anything in it, there are venues that do that beautifully and we are not one of them.

If half your guests cannot manage fifteen minutes of walking on chipped bark, or the idea of your day depending partly on the weather makes you tense rather than excited, a wood will be a long day rather than a good one.

We would much rather say that now than take a deposit and leave you to work it out on the day.
